Amy Avelar's Legacy

Amy Avelar was a dedicated and inspiring longtime City of Ventura resident and lover of the outdoors. Throughout her adulthood, she spent much time outdoors walking, running, and hiking local paths and trails.

Amy tragically passed away at the young age of 46 on April 5, 2022. Her family wants to carry on her legacy of health and spending time outdoors.

Amy’s family is raising $25,000 to sponsor a bench at Harmon Canyon Preserve in memory of Amy.

A Bench To Enjoy The View

Carlos Avelar, Amy’s husband, believes that Amy’s healthy lifestyle and love of the outdoors are wonderful qualities that we should all aspire to emulate. “Amy loved to hike to the top of a peak and then take in the views of the Channel Islands and the Pacific Ocean. It was the reward of the strenuous hike and Amy relished it every time,” beamed Carlos.

“Amy and I often chose to hike together and enjoy the views. It was a time for bonding and a time to relish the beautiful scenes of Ventura's coastline,” states Eva Harris, Amy’s sister. “Amy would gently push me to reach a high pinnacle and then we could take time to catch our breath. Having a bench in her honor will benefit all those who choose to hike our local trails.”

Support The Campaign To Sponsor A Bench In Honor Of Amy

By raising funds to sponsor a bench in Amy’s name, her family and friends hope to solidify her memory in a tangible way that reflects her staunch enthusiasm for the outdoor hiking life and her steadfast healthy lifestyle.
