2023 Ventura Land Trust Art Contest Guidelines
- This contest is open to Ventura County residents.
- There are three age categories:
- Kids (2-12)
- Teens (13-17)
- Adults (18+)
Winners will be selected in each of the three age categories. An overall winner will be chosen from the three age group winners.
- Original artwork must fit inside the 7.5" circle of the entry form and uploaded online HERE. Three-dimensional pieces and photography are not eligible.
-
Entries must have a Ventura County nature or coastal theme, or be related to land conservation, Indigenous cultural heritage, climate, or how community and nature intersect. Art does not need to depict specific places or species, but if it does, it must be California places and species. Winning art entries will be used on a special-edition t-shirt and decal sticker.
-
Artwork must be the entrant's original work.
-
Artists should include a short statement (a paragraph or less) describing their inspiration for the artwork. If needed, this can be dictated to or translated by a parent, teacher, or other helper. Do not trace or digitally alter an existing photo or image created by someone other than the entrant. If using an image created by someone else (of an animal, for example) as a model for an entry, entrant's artwork must be significantly different to avoid plagiarism.
-
Entries must be uploaded by 5:00pm PST on February 10th, 2023. Entrants may enter multiple pieces but must complete a separate entry form for each one. For entrants under 18, a parent or guardian must approve and sign each Entry Form. Winners will be contacted directly by mid-February.
- Please keep the original artwork. If artwork is chosen as a category or overall winner, the entrant must mail the original artwork to Ventura Land Trust, unless the artwork was created digitally. Artwork will be kept by VLT for approximately one year as part of the art contest and 20th anniversary campaign promotion.
HOW TO ENTER
Submit artwork online through the submission form. For art pieces not created digitally, scan artwork at 300 dpi, or take a photograph of the art on a flat surface or wall with good lighting and no shadow. Position the camera directly in front of the piece, not at an angle.
Alternative submission methods include:
- Photograph and email the artwork and completed Entry Form to [email protected] by 5:00pm on February 10th. For entrants under 18, a parent or guardian must sign each Entry Form. Keep original artwork.
OR
- Entries can be mailed to Ventura Land Trust at:
Ventura Land Trust
Attn: Art Contest
3451 Foothill Road, Suite 201
Ventura, CA 93003
Complete a paper Entry Form for each entry. Attach the completed Entry Form and an artist's statement about the inspiration for the artwork to the back of each piece of artwork with tape. Do not fold or staple artwork.
Mailed entries must arrive at Ventura Land Trust no later than Tuesday, February 7th. Multiple entries can be sent in one package, but each entry must have its own entry form attached. Ventura Land Trust is not responsible for entries that are late, damaged, or lost. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
