The California Conservation Corps (CCC) Foundation in Oxnard has chosen VHC to host a volunteer work day with current and former CCC members. The work day will take place at our Big Rock Preserve, where the Corps will be installing a bench and beautifying the trailhead as part of a project supported by JH Biotech of Ventura.
JH Biotech, a local company specializing in organic farming products, is dedicated to "safety in agriculture and the impact of its products on the environment." They have generously supported VHC with a grant to buy a bench, mounting supplies, and trees for the trailhead at Big Rock.
The public is invited to come join in the work, which will also include trail clearing and preparing the area for tree planting.
Where to Go: Big Rock Preserve is located just south of Foster Park along the Ojai-Ventura Bike Trail. We recommend that visitors park along Casitas Vista Rd underneath the HWY 33 overpass, and walk south next to the bike path until they see our trail head marker (across from the mural on the retaining wall). The Preserve is open from dawn until dusk every day of the year, except during hazardous weather and high water events in the Ventura River. Dogs, camping, and motorized vehicles are not allowed.
