Community Relations Assistant Job Description

Ventura Land Trust (VLT) is a local, private, non-profit land trust working to protect the land, water, wildlife, and scenic beauty of the Ventura region for current and future generations. The organization strives to create a fun, inspiring and team-oriented work environment with flexible work hours.

The Community Relations Assistant reports to the Stewardship Director and supports outreach efforts on behalf of the organization. The Community Relations Assistant manages and trains docents and volunteers, and provides event support. The Community Relations Assistant works collaboratively with fellow VLT staff, board members, committee members, and volunteers in all outreach endeavors.

Responsibilities:

  • Solicit, coordinate, and manage regular  volunteer communications  for VLT programs
  • Build VLT volunteer Ambassador program
  • Arrange and supervise volunteer support for community, cultivation, and special events 
  • Promote volunteer events on Ventura Land Trust website, community calendars, and with community partners
  • Maintain record of volunteer activities, number of volunteers, and total volunteer hours 
  • Ensure volunteer waivers are signed and collected before participating in volunteer activity
  • Coordinate corporate, school, and other group volunteer events 
  • Work closely with Stewardship, Outreach, and Development teams to coordinate volunteers for events
  • Solicit and coordinate docents for the Harmon Canyon and Big Rock Docent Programs
  • Guide the development and launch of the Mariano Rancho Preserve Docent Program
  • Organize annual VLT volunteer recognition event
  • Perform data entry in Salesforce volunteer module 
  • Support and attend VLT community and development events
  • Support, calendar, and staff partnership events and tabling opportunities
  • Support, calendar, and staff Stewardship events
  • Perform website updates and email & social media communications related to VLT events
  • Perform data entry for VLT Eventbrite account 
  • Perform other related duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk for up to 8 hours with breaks
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; ability to lift up to 10 pounds overhead on occasion
  • Ability to walk up one flight of stairs to VLT office

Pay:

$20-$22 per hour. 40 hours per week.
