We are mixing things up this month and helping the City of Ventura clear invasive plants in and around River Haven, a transitional housing encampment for the homeless in Ventura. River Haven — which started as the city’s only legal, self-governing campground — has by many measures been one of Ventura’s great successes in reducing homelessness. Funded by the community and Turning Point Foundation, River Haven has been helping homeless people turn their lives around since 2006.
Join VLT staff as we chop, pull, and lop non-native, invasive plants to clear the way for more small houses to be added to the River Haven camp. Please wear pants, long sleeves, closed-toe shoes, and don't forget sunscreen and water. We'll provide the tools, you provide the enthusiasm!
You can access River Haven off of Harbor Blvd., just south of the stop light at Spinnaker Dr. Turn in when you see a City of Ventura truck with a light bar flashing and park by the shipping container near the entrance.
