Get your hands dirty and do something good for nature this fall!
Join One Tree Planted and the Ventura Land Trust in planting trees within the Big Rock Preserve!
Help us in our ongoing post-Thomas Fire restoration at the Big Rock Preserve.
The fire killed 85% of the 1,000 trees that we had planted and invasive species have been persistently trying to fill in the gaps. With the help of our wonderful community volunteers we aim to remove invasive species, plant native trees and shrubs, and restore this wildlife habitat. Come join us in this important restoration effort!
What to bring
Closed toe shoes
Reusable water bottle
We will be providing water (using a water dispenser to reduce waste), granola bars and fruit!
Note: Children under 16 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult/guardian. The guardian will need to sign a waiver.
River Restoration events are a part of VLT's ongoing efforts to bring the Ventura River back to its natural state and make it more welcoming to human and wildlife visitors alike. Please wear pants, long sleeves, closed-toe shoes, and don't forget sunscreen and water. We'll provide the tools, you provide the enthusiasm!
We recommend that you park at Foster Park, cross Casitas Vista Rd. at the entrance to the park and walk south about 1/4 along the bike path to get to Big Rock. Meet VLT staff at 9 a.m. at the entrance to the preserve at the kiosk under the pepper tree along the bike path just south of Foster Park.
Want to contribute more than sweat-equity? The Ventura Land Trust now offers affordable River Restoration Sponsorship opportunities. Environmentally-minded individuals and businesses are invited to support our habitat restoration work by financially contributing to the costs of cleaning, clearing and restoring the land. There's no better way to put your money to work!
